Super Kid Cannon is "hairier than an Italian plumber"
Judging by the trailer below, this game is the 8th wonder of the world. Which is great, as I'm not a fan of odd numbers. Super Kid Cannon may be cheeky, but as it's an homage to old-school platformers - complete with an animal hero, in a red panda - we'll let developer Skyjoy Interactive get away with it. The indie studio appears to be going all out for its first game, with extremely polished hand-drawn visuals, a well-developed sense of theme and plenty being put into the marketing effort.
The gameplay is described as a vertical launcher, which effectively means and upwards climbing platformer, with a little hint of pinball. If that doesn't make sense (likely!) then watch the trailer below. 30 levels across five worlds are promised, each getting exponentially harder and throwing new threats at you. Somewhere at the top of all this upward scrolling - one level is reportedly 40ft long! - is the kid's fling, Justine, who has been stolen by a snow leopard named after naughty Klingon Khan.
The game is soft-launching in late February in New Zealand, then going global. While you wait, you can check out our 12 Nintendo-Like Games on the App Store, or even get nostalgic with Sonic the Hedgehog. Alternatively, we suggest grabbing another fun indie game called Freedom Fall. It's a vertical faller, and packed with charm. You can read our review here, or grab the game here.
