Sonic the Hedgehog Meets Doodle Jump in Sonic Jump Fever
Poor old Sonic has lost his place in the world. He used to be a genuine console-selling mascot, but then the Dreamcast died and he started selling himself out a bit. The rise of 3D gaming did him no favours and eventually he had to team-up with arch enemy Mario - how embarrassing. Perhaps iOS can give him the new lease on life he needs. Get his spike back. Get his speed back.
Well at E3 2014, Sega announced that Sonic Jump Fever is on its way to mobiles and rather than try and create something new, the publisher has instead opted for the tried and true formula popularised by Doodle Jump. You'll go high, as high as you can, in an allotted time frame at a blisteringly fast pace. You'll collect rings galore and dodge typical Sonic obstacles and threats, all to hyper-retro SFX and rich visuals. Stringing together combos of attacks is a key part of getting the score you need to climb the leaderboards.
To be honest, despite his recent troubles, we're always down for more Sonic. In fact, the recent port of his console game Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed to iPad resulted in an excellent kart racer that's the equal of the Mario entries. So why not check that out while we wait to catch a jump fever on the link below. Sonic CD is pretty great retro fun, too.
